Baby On Board Presentation

Our Presentation
In our presentation we spoke about a numerous of things such as our USP, the films target audience, characters (main and small parts), different social groups, plot outline, the generic conventions of an teen angst film we included, conventions of a title/opening sequence we included, music and settings. we each spoke about a couple topics each.
           Our Unique Selling Point
It is a British low budget film, set and filmed in the UK.  It has a twist on the typical teen angst film as it portrays life accurately and has characters in it which you  it also could meet in everyday life, in contrast to mean girls where everyone has a big house, expensive clothes and lots of money.
Target Audience
The films target audience is teenage girls aged 12-18, this is because the characters in Baby On Board are in between these ages, because they are in our age group it will be easier to make the film appeal to them and for them to relate to the context.
Characters
The main character is Jessie played by Courtney Holdaway. She is the most popular girl in school until she gets pregnant and loses it all. Her boyfriend Jake is to be played by Danny Barnett, He said he'll always be by Jessie's side and will always support her but this soon changes when he finds out hes the baby's father. Jessie's best friend Emily will be played by Ellen Ryan-Gill. Emily has always liked Jake and would do anything to be with him. A side from the three main characters there are also other social groups shown throughout the films such as Chavs including Bianca Played by me, the geeks including Gertrude played by Rachel Patterson, the popular sporty boys such Josh Long, the popular girls such as Alice Wilard and the teacher who will be played by Mrs Twydell. Some characters have a twist on them in contrast to other teen angst films such as the main popular girls has brown/ red hair and her side kick has blonde hair,in other teen angst films this is usually the other way round.
Plot Outline
The plot outline for Baby On Board is that the main character Jessie get pregnant at the best party of the year. When she decides to tell her boyfriend Jake the most popular boy in school he gets angry and breaks up with her, leaving her with no one to support her and the baby. She loses her friends, including her best friend Jessie, and her family and finds her self on a downwards spiral going through the schools different social groups going to from the top to the very bottom by herself. Even the most unpopular group in the school, the geeks are above her. Her best friend Emily gets with Jake leaving her with no one. She leaves her current soon as she cant cope with the constant name calling and joins a new school where she meets a boy named Robbie, a nice, handsome, smart and down to earth boy the same age as her who makes her feel special. They get together, the baby is born and they live happily ever after. The plot outline is different to other teen angst films as this film shows not everything is perfect, you don't get what you want by magic and things happen for a reason.
Generic Conventions
The generic conventions of a teen angst film we included are evil
  • evil/bitchy female characters
  • different social groups
  • the films is set in a school
  • main character is played by a girl
  • a party scene involving alcohol and sex
  • teenagers are the main focus
  • theme of growing up and betrayal
we also included some conventions of a films title/opening sequence
  • voice over
  • introduction of characters
  • girl is main character
  • titles edited to fit in with the scene and camera movements
  • layered sound
  •  Music and Settings
For the title sequence/opening we decided to use a slow/sad song to connote the sadness in the film and to connote what the character Jessie is feeling. It also gives the view of Baby On Board an insight as to what the film is about. For the party scene we decided fast up beat music to fit the stereotype of a teenage party and to show connote that teenagers live fast pace lives. it will also show a vast change in the atmosphere between the class for and party and the present to past. we chose to use a media class room fro the class room scene because it fits the purpose we need, also the way the table our set it would make it easier to pan around the classroom to show the different social groups and what is going on. we then decided a drama room would suit best for a party scene as it is dark and we are able to add some coloured lights to make it look more exciting and realistic. Another reason we was drawn to use this room is because its a spacious room which would be needed for a crowded popular party.
    Feedback
After presenting our presentation we could some constructive criticism such as use more media terminology, do not read as much from the paper and add more finer details into the presentation such as where will the titles be placed in the title/opening sequence. we also got some positive feedback such as we used good media terms such as USP and Generic Conventions, we spoke clearly and good reasons why we included certain things such as included different social groups to show diversity and understanding.
